As the international music festival Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala 2025 approaches, Laima Vaikule, Jānis Stībelis and Normunds Rutulis present a heartfelt new song titled “Mans draugs” (“My Friend”) – a sincere musical message about the moment of parting and the hope of reuniting. Starting from July 17, the song will be broadcast on Latvian radio stations. 

Far from being a traditional ballad, “Mans draugs” is an emotionally charged story that captures the warmth of a farewell embrace and the comforting thought of seeing each other again. Written and composed by Jānis Stībelis, the song conveys a deep yet accessible message. The artist notes that he aimed to present this universal theme in a simple but powerful way, allowing each listener to find their own reflection in the lyrics. 

Normunds Rutulis shares his thoughts on the collaboration: 

“‘Tiksimies, mans draugs!’ is a melodic and memorable song, just like so many of Jānis’s works. I gladly accepted the invitation to join this recording. I was especially touched to learn that Laima Vaikule would also be part of it. Singing with Laima and performing Jānis’s song is a great privilege, and I’m truly happy about this collaboration. Laima Vaikule comments on the emotional essence of the song: 

“The core idea of this song is that, when we part, we embrace each other and hope to meet again soon. In our case, it’s a conversation about the festival, about seeing each other again in the summer, but this message is universal – anyone saying goodbye to someone close longs for the next reunion.” 

The live premiere of “Mans draugs” will take place at the Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala 2025 festival on the stage of the Dzintari Concert Hall. Now in its seventh edition, the festival brings together outstanding artists from Latvia and beyond, offering an eclectic programme that bridges genres and generations.
